Institut für Architekturbezogene Kunst / Institute for Architecture-related Art
With Saraceno’s multi-disciplinary background, and together with Sasha Engelmann, Natalija Miodragovic, Alan Prohm and Jol Thomson, they challenged traditional concepts of art pedagogy and practice, and focused on developing methods for young creative practitioners in the age of the Anthropo- and Aerocene.
The final semester was themed around the notion of ‘Becoming Pilot’, which we might also think of as fostering ‘response-ability’. The semester and adventure ended with a three day festival of art, music, dancing, and friendship.

One of the final group projects with the undergraduates was engaging with the nearby temporary refugee camp Ehra-Lessien
Ceci n’est pas un Refugee Camp / هذا ليس مخيما للاجئين
Ideas for Ehra-Lessien – DRK Notunterkunft – Emergency Immigrant Housing Facility of the German Red Cross
Submissions were all accepted and granted full points – all proposals will be delivered directly to the direction of Ehra-Lessien. At our final exhibition and farewell festival for Vertretungsprofessor Tomás Saraceno on Wednesday 13.07., Dir. Thomas Schweigler will comment the works, and ask the audience to offer their opinions in a public voting.

The IAK is a space of collective experiment with the radical multi-disciplinarities of art and architecture. At the newly conceived IAK students are supported and challenged to develop strong bases for their creative practice, and to orient themselves as full(est) human beings towards the whole range of real possibilities open to them as architects, as artists, and as citizens of a complex networked world.
To learn more about the Institute, please come visit (Bevenroder St. 80), or call: +49 531 23511 50, or email: iak@tu-bs.de
Archives of the IAK before 2015 show the rich tradition of the IAK under Prof. Azade Köker and other previous directors.
