If you ever retire, it will not be before 2060. There is no University that can prepare you for this situation. But you can learn about yourself, our perception, Art-, work, Universe, cultural environment , how to pilot – try out, experiment, pioneer. A Pioneer is a person who is one of the first people to do something. Daring to master a new skill , and pass on your experience with passion. Like for ex.Wilhelmina  Reichard, born 1788 in Braunschweig – the Pioneer of the Balloon Flight.

“Learning to fly requires specific skills…A skilled pilot becomes one with the balloon and learns to asses a situation quickly and accurately.” (from the Balloon Flying Handbook)

You will be the Pilot _Pioneer – Pilot of the New: frequencies, scales and densities, exploring and expanding our spectrum. Explore the art  or sensitivity for “Umwelt” and skills to communicate this.

In the workshop  we explore artistic processes and agency, non-animal and animal sensing, through experience and exercise, in order to animate our work with new sensing skills. Goal is expanding our imagination, dare to master new skill,  observe and act: Taking initiative, and alter the senses of others. How technology is expanding your possibilities, abilities on personal, social and environmental level?  We will rethink a loop from the Balloon Flying Handbook: observe, orient, decide, act…observe again

OBSERVE / BEOBACHTEN We will make series of sensing-exercises . Learn to observe and to see, and how other species “see” in order to understand and extend our imagination and skills: See ultra-multicolour like a dragon fly, biosonar (echolocation) lika a bat and a dolphin. Your task is to choose one new sensing skill. We will expeeriment with drawing, light, colour and frequencies …

ORIENT / sich ORIENTIEREN We learn about biological compasses, solar and celestial,  animal migration, magnetoreception , electroreception. Get lost in the city and the forest. Your task is to  draw and re-construct possible (mind) maps.

DECIDE / ENTSCHEIDEN There are no passengers on Spaceship Eearth. We are all crew. (Marshall McLuhan) We will learn to make mistakes and decisions, decide together how our work will evolve.

ACT /HANDELN Work on performative (interactive) art work, made in groups, that incoorporate a new experience. Materials would be responsive,  leightweight materials like ropes, bamboo, words, straws,  textile, students,  lights… *Take part in Climate change conference preparations

OBSERVE AGAIN / wieder BEOBACHTEN Semester Exhibithion….act and observe again
